Baking: Life is Better With Easy-To-Make Treats

Abby Wilson

Who doesn’t love baking? If I’m bored, beating some eggs and melting some chocolate always seems to pass the time. And you’re left with a delicious treat to enjoy?! Why wouldn’t you?

If you’re new to baking but want to impress your friends with dessert staples, here are some of my favourite easy things to make/bake. Enjoy!

Betty Crocker

Some might say cheating, I say delicious? Anything Betty Crocker is guaranteed to leave you wanting more. Whether it’s Devil’s chocolate cake, red velvet cake or her lemon cake, just add eggs, oil and water and Bob’s your uncle, Betty’s your aunt! The frosting…now that is something else. I could literally eat a whole tub of her frosting, it is soooooo good.

It’s definitely worth buying a Betty Crocker mix if you’re not confident in the kitchen but want to impress your friends! They will never know…

Betty’s mixes can be found in pretty much any supermarket, so what are you waiting for? Head to your local supermarket now!

Brownies

I absolutely love brownies. Although I would never turn down a plain chocolate brownie, I enjoy experimenting when baking brownies. Brownies with white chocolate chunks, crushed Oreos and raspberries, Creme Eggs or chocolate orange brownies – whatever is in them, it’s safe to say, I can’t get enough of brownies. A classic dessert that is really easy to make.

If you fancy giving Oreo and raspberry brownies a go, here is the recipe!

Cake

Who doesn’t love cake?! It’s not a Birthday without a cake, so instead of spending £20 on a cake from M&S, why not make your own? You’ve probably got a lot of the ingredients in your cupboard already – flour, sugar, eggs, milk and butter tend to be in the majority of cake recipes and are cupboard staples.

Although getting a Betty Crocker cake mix is without doubt an easy option, it’s always fun to bake a cake from scratch. Lemon drizzle cake is a personal favourite of mine. Why not give Mary Berry’s lemon cake recipe a try?

Cheesecake

A simple, creamy dessert that requires very little effort and no baking. Whether you go for New York, Oreo, white chocolate, lemon or strawberry, there are so many different types of cheesecake that you can make in a matter of minutes! Quick, cheap and easy, cheesecake is something you will have your friends tucking into!

This white chocolate cheesecake recipe will definitely leave you wanting more:

Cupcakes

Fed up of spending £3.50 on one cupcake from Lola’s? Head down to the supermarket, buy the ingredients for that price and you’ll be able to make loads! Whether they’re lemon, chocolate or vanilla, you can’t go wrong with cupcakes. Who said cupcakes had to be boring? Decorate your cupcakes with frosting, chocolate or sweets to really wow your friends!

If you want to make easy chocolate cupcakes, give this recipe a go!

Rice Krispie cakes

I’ve always found Rice Krispies quite a boring cereal. They’re normally found at the back of our cupboards, about to go out of date. If you’re in the same boat, then you need to try making Rice Krispie Cakes! Super simple, quick and delicious. They’re really cheap to make, with only a handful of ingredients needed.

Even for those that aren’t confident in the kitchen, you can’t get these wrong. There’s no baking required, simply chill them in the fridge!

The perfect afternoon treat to accompany a cuppa!

Here is a really simple recipe for delicious Rice Krispie Cakes!

Rocky Road

Rocky road is a classic treat, made from chocolate, marshmallows, biscuits and syrup. If you’re short of time but want to impress your friends, or want a handy snack to put in your lunchbox, rocky road is a must try.

Follow Nigella’s simple recipe for mouth-watering rocky road.

Tiffin

If you’ve never tried a tiffin from Costa, then you’d better go and grab one as soon as you stop reading this. One of my favourite confectionary items, similar to a rocky road, a tiffin is a cake-like confection made from crushed biscuits, syrup, chocolate and raisins. They’re really easy to make and they don’t require baking!

Follow this recipe – mix your ingredients together, put in a tin in the fridge and leave for about an hour to set! Voilà!

Happy baking!
