I was scrolling through Instagram one day when all of a sudden I came across a post regarding ‘Street Food Circus’. I saw the word food and was immediately interested, so had a little browse and the next day I was there. At Roath Yard Market, just a five-minute walk from Cardiff City Centre, Street Food Circus brings Camden to Cathays, a buzzing food market with some amazing food on offer.
Free entry and four weekends of delicious tastes and flavours, 10 trucks all with a range of cuisines from round the world come to Roath. Curried goat from Jamaica, poutine from Canada and sticky duck from Asia. With tastes from some of Cardiff’s favourites – Alp Mac, Brother Thai, The Cheese Truck, Dirty Bird Fried Chicken, Jerk Yard, Puckin’ Poutine, Science Cream and many more, choosing what to have was quite a task.
After a while of deliberating and staring at everyone eating their food, I decided to go for poutine AND the halloumi fries. It was too hard a decision to get just one thing. They were both absolutely delicious. Puckin’ Poutine offers the best Quebec style poutine, with chips covered in cheese curds, gravy and spring onions. The halloumi fries from Dirty Bird Fried Chicken were to also die for.

Although I was stuffed, I couldn’t leave without filling my dessert stomach and getting an ice cream. I have walked past Science Cream in Castle Quarter Arcade many a time and had wanted to try it for ages. After hearing a lot about it, I decided it was time to lose my Science Cream virginity. All of the flavours sounded amazing but I was especially tempted by the salted caramel, white chocolate and honeycomb. The only liquid nitrogen ice cream parlour in Wales did not disappoint!

After a lovely day spent at Roath Yard Market in the sun, with food in one hand and a cocktail in the other, I couldn’t resist a second visit. This time I went for Dirty Bird’s fried chicken and dirty posh fries. What more could you want than fried chicken and truffle and parmesan fries? It really was fabulous.

Sadly, Street Food Circus is over for the year, but you will be able to find many of the stalls in and around Cardiff and they will most likely be back next year so keep an eye out!
